Florida (February 16, 2017) – Retired Sheriff Jeffrey J. “Jeff” Dawsy is partnering with Corizon Health as the company’s “Sheriff Ambassador” in Florida.

Dawsy recently retired after serving 20 years as Sheriff of Citrus County, having first been elected in 1996. He began his law enforcement career in 1978 as a deputy with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office after serving in the Air Force. In 1981, he moved to the CCSO as a deputy and worked his way up to captain before seeking office.

“We are honored Sheriff Dawsy chose to serve our company as an ambassador to Florida’s sheriffs and the Florida Sheriffs Association,” said Chris Bell, Corizon Health Vice President of Business Development for Community Corrections. “He embodies the values that we strive to deliver to our partners – commitment, professionalism, service, and integrity, coupled with a wealth of experience.”

Bell said that as sheriff, Dawsy worked successfully with private contractors in his jail operations and appreciates the advantages that successful partnerships can bring to a sheriff’s office.

“Correctional healthcare, which is getting more complex every day, simply is not a core competency of law enforcement,” Dawsy said. “By turning that aspect of our operations over to the professionals, we free our people and our resources to do what we were elected to do, which is protect public safety.

“My role is to help Corizon be as strong of a partner as they can be by providing a law enforcement perspective,” he continued. “I also hope to be a resource to sheriffs grappling with how to meet the growing health care needs of our inmates while being good stewards of our taxpayers’ dollars.”

In addition to his years as sheriff, Dawsy holds a number of leadership positions both in law enforcement and within the wider community including President of Jessie’s Place, the Citrus County Children’s Advocacy Center; Co-Chair of the Florida Sheriff’s Association Sexual Predator Task Force and a member of the FSA Board of Directors; and Chairman of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Criminal Justice Standards and Training Trust Fund for Region VI.

During his tenure as sheriff, he led the consolidation of several local public safety units into the CCSO, launched a Child Protective Investigations Unit and achieved and maintained several national and state accreditations.

Dawsy and his wife, Gail, have three children and three grandchildren.
